MTV’s Scream season 3 news draws big reaction, but will it draw big ratings?
The big surprise that goes with this is simply that this move happened following a pretty big cliffhanger at the end of season 2. If MTV’s Scream had done a better job of making sure that season 2 tied together all loose ends, maybe there would be some more of a content reaction behind the show going in a new creative reaction.
In looking at the reaction on social media, the majority of it is negative — and understandably so. You just have to remember that the fans of this show already liked what they had, and as a result of that, why would they want to change it?
Yet, there is that expression that sometimes, any publicity is good publicity. It’s been months since we’d written about Scream the TV series before today, and it was starting to become unclear what was becoming of the show. There was infinitely more conversation about the show than there was would’ve been otherwise in the event that there was no news about it … or if season 3 somehow was the same as the two seasons that came before. This move brought the show some publicity, and it also got it to be trending worldwide on social media. Maybe some curious viewers will check it out as a result to see what the hype is about. We can foresee season 3 generating some great ratings for the premiere, but then falling fast after that if it is not up to snuff.
What we’re trying to say here is rather simple: We feel for whoever takes over the show as the showrunner and has to try and live up to these sort of expectations. Remember for a minute here that there are some changes coming behind the scenes to go along with there being a new story.
What do you think: Does all of the attention surrounding Scream today over some of the changes help or hurt the series in the long-term? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts in the comments below! (Photo: MTV.)

What a glaring mistake! At the end of the Scream Halloween movie it was clear that the real Brandon James killer is still out there. Piper and Kieran have both been copy cat killers. One more season is in order the original cast, or at least what is left of it. A mystery exists with Emma’s mom and dad, the Sherriff and others that needs to be finalized either in a third season or movie. If the producers can’t finish the current storyline, why start another?
