MacGyver episode 19: What we know (and when we’ll know more)
Luckily, when we do get to that date, you’re hopefully going to get a chance to see some good stuff! There will be three episodes that air in succession at that point, and they are “Compass,” “Hole Puncher,” and then “Cigar Cutter,” which seems to be the final episode of the season. These episodes have a lot that they need to accomplish. Not only do they have the task of tying together everything that we’ve seen so far this season, but they also have to create some sort of cliffhanger that could carry over to the second season. There’s not a whole lot of time in order to do that, so we do hope that the show figures out a way to pull it off and deliver some surprises before we get to the end of the road.
We’ve already teased on a few different occasions that Murdoc will be returning, so that is something else to look forward to seeing by the time we make it to the end. He’s one of the show’s most-iconic villains, but it remains to be seen if he is the villain and the person who will terrorize Mac and Jack by the end of this.
In regards to the future beyond that, there’s nothing further to report at present other than that we remain very confident that the season 2 renewal is coming. This is a show that certainly earned it. There was a lot of skepticism in the early going as to whether or not the show could find a way to separate itself from the original and stand on its own two feet, but it’s found a way to do that over time.
Oh, and one other thing that we’d add in here: It feels like the right time to see Richard Dean Anderson appear on the show. We know that you want that distance from the original, but it feels like this show’s proven that it can stand without the original star and this would be a nice bit of fan service. (We’ll probably do a lengthier piece on this before we get around to the hiatus.)

I so agree this show has earned a second season. It has grown so much and with typical growth there has been a bit of painful stretches. I like to believe they will hit their stride. I’d like to see Mac and Jack have more screen time and maybe not so much focus on the supporting characters now that their roles have been defined. I would love more depth to Mac and maybe a little more seriousness, though part of this show’s charm is the fun it brings. A big part of this is the cast’s chemistry. It’s great between all of them, especially Mac and Jack. I think finishing up the Thornton and Niki story line is important, so next season can bring a whole new arch. Maybe we will meet Mac’s grandfather or his dad. Some of my favorite scenes is when you catch glimpses of what made Mac what he is. I love the bond he and Jack have as Veterans but we haven’t scene that used and I think it would be amazing. I want to like Bozer but I do not want him shoved into every episode. It’s not necessary. I wish many things for this lovely show but I especially hope they get a chance to really shine.
