Outlander season 3 production notes: South Africa work continues

Outlander season 3 production -

It has been some time (as in, a few days) since we provided the latest Outlander season 3 update, but it turns out that there is a rather simple reason for that: It’s been a very quiet week! With Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan now in South Africa with much of the crew, filming is underway. In some ways, it’s ironic that things tend to be significantly quieter during production than they tend to be when things are not happening when it comes to the show. Consider this a reminder that sometimes work is methodical, and it’s not often something that can be shared with the public. Productions are often hush-hush for a reason.

With that, we can give you today at least a little bit of insight into how some things are going — namely, that filming is still going strong, that the cast is getting in a routine of doing things in South Africa much like they would in Scotland, and there are some familiar faces down there to go along with the new ones.

In a post on Twitter, executive producer Maril Davis confirmed that there is a “small portion” of the crew from Scotland who made the trip down to the Cape Town area, which should help to give the place a little bit more familiarity with the cast. These are all people who have been with a show for a while and have already established a rapport and a shorthand. It makes the process a tad smoother.

Given that filming is going to be taking place in the country until early June, it more than likely helps to have a few familiar faces around.

Let’s go now from the familiar to the unfamiliar — as executive producer Matthew B. Roberts showed on his own Twitter, he ran into something rather surprising and certainly rather dangerous — a Cape Cobra. We’re not sure we would’ve even stopped to take a picture; instead, we’d be off running in the entire direction!

Scouting is often an underrated part of the job, given that you need to find locations that capture the necessary feel of the show, while at the same time ones that are different from any other scene. Given that you are using South Africa to double for another place in Jamaica, it’s all the more challenging.

One last reminder we’ll give you today is to head over to the link here in the event you want to vote for Outlander in the new TV Madness 2017 showdown against Major Crimes! Voting is open for a few more days.
