Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath season 2 official; series renewed by A&E

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath was by far one of the most-popular series that aired on A&E over the course of the past year. It also happened to be one of the most controversial. Remember for a minute here that this is a show that featured its host, a former member of the church, exposing some of its deepest secrets. They were clearly not happy with it coming on the air, and we’ve got a pretty good feeling that they are also not all that happy with it getting renewed now for a season 2.

In a statement per The Hollywood Reporter, Remini had the following to say about the series coming back:

“The way the organization has responded without taking responsibility for what they do to people, I need to continue … It would be another [scenario] if they stopped trying to discredit everyone’s stories and said, ‘If you don’t like it, don’t be part of Scientology.’”

The challenge for a potential season 2 for this show is really rather simple — trying to figure out a way to recapture lighting in a bottle. This is a show that went all-out in the first season, so trying to find a way to further expose things from the church this time around will be a little more difficult. Still, Remini is certainly proving herself to be very brave, given that this is clearly something that Church of Scientology would like to see go away as soon as humanly possible.

What’s also interesting is that Remini could be infinitely busier going into this year. In addition to doing a Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath season 2, she’s also set to start in a potential NBC series entitled What About Barb?, which is meant to be a play on the classic Bill Murray movie What About Bob? We’ll see if that ends up getting picked up.

What do you think: Did we need a Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, and do you think that there is any chance that the show will receive the same sort of ratings that we saw from the first go-around? Share in the comments. (Photo: A&E.)
