Once Upon a Time season 6 episode 13 spoilers: Will Hook tell Emma about Charming’s father?

We enter Once Upon a Time season 6 episode 13 with one of the most devastating secrets that we’ve seen through the entirety of the show, and it’s one that could alter the course of the Captain Swan relationship forever: Hook is responsible for killing Charming’s father. Basically, in turn he murdered Emma’s grandfather, and it was for no clear reason other than that he felt like making sure “dead men tell no tales.” There wasn’t a larger significance behind the move, and it was pretty clear as to why Hook didn’t want the secret out there. He knows that the news getting out would jeopardize and even ruin his relationship at a time when he is getting ready to propose marriage.

ABC released the official synopsis on Monday for the next new episode entitled “Ill-Boding Patterns,” and it makes it clear precisely that Hook is going to be thinking about coming clean to Emma, trying to be a better person … but there may still be a problem here in how the news is coming out a little too late.

Synopsis – “When Gideon resumes his mission to kill Emma and become the Savior, Mr. Gold steps in to ensure that the use of dark magic does not poison his son. Meanwhile, Robin proves willing to ally himself with anyone offering the possibility of escape from Regina and Storybrooke. Hook gathers the courage to come clean to Emma, but not before she discovers he’s been keeping a secret. And in a flashback to Fairy Tale Land, the legendary folk hero Beowulf sets his sights on Rumplestiltskin after the Dark One uses his powers to defeat the ogres and win the war for humanity.”

Why are we getting Beowulf now? That may be the biggest mystery that we’ve personally got going into “Ill-Boding Patterns,” given that he’s hardly the sort of character who will inspire new viewers to watch the show. He is the subject behind one of the biggest epics in the history of literature, but we’re not sure how many casual viewers are aware of the story. The Hook – Emma stuff is the main selling point of the episode, especially now that it is so clear that this Robin is far from the same Robin we once knew. Let’s just say that he may not be so happy about his decision to travel to Storybrooke anymore.
