Stephen Amell – American Ninja Warrior: Arrow star finally competes!
Amell recently filmed a segment for what we’re hearing could be some sort of celebrity edition of the NBC series — but that’s all we’re really comfortable saying about it right now given that part of the fun is watching it play out on TV. We don’t really understand the need to tape it in advance other than spoil the fun somewhat. Plus, having it air live and be a surprise helps the show’s ratings, which in turn gives Stephen even more of a higher profile.
One of the things that probably did help Stephen be prepared for American Ninja Warrior is the intense amount of training that he does for Arrow in the first place. He does as many of his own stunts over there as he can, and he also needs to be in great shape just to move around in the costume (let alone the prerequisite shirtless scenes that you get here and there).
Our hope is that this episode will air a little bit later this year — it certainly wouldn’t surprise us if it was some sort of special that was put on similar to the All-Stars one that aired last month. Putting these events on the air are a great way to bridge the gap between seasons, and this has turned out to be a huge hit for both NBC and the Esquire Network. Not only that, but it’s become a major sporting event in its own right. It’s entertaining, and it combines that with athleticism.
Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt that Matt Iseman now has an even greater platform after his commanding victory on this past Celebrity Apprentice season, one where he became one of the most-likable winners of that show ever.
Oh, and if for whatever reason you want to see the effect of Amell’s time on the show, we like to think the photo above is proof of that. He doesn’t specifically mention filming the show in here, but he doesn’t need to.
