Apparently, American Horror Story is not the only show looking for a Hillary Clinton – Donald Trump miniseries of some sort. HBO announced on Thursday that they are working to craft a project from Game Change authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s new book that will chronicle the biggest election in recent memory … and also one that most people are probably trying to tune out in one way or another. It was emotional stressful, and we’re not sure that we’ve had more than a day or two to breathe since it ended.
Jay Roach, who previously directed the Game Change movie about John McCain and Sarah Palin, will be on hand to helm the new version. In a statement, Len Amato, the head of HBO Films had the following to say:
“We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, whose work on their bestselling book Game Change set the bar for political reporting and storytelling inside a presidential campaign … Reuniting Game Change director and executive producer Jay Roach and Playtone producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman with Mark and John for a project based on their upcoming book promises to vividly capture the most unique and impactful event in modern American politics.”
For those of you who are incredibly tired of all things election talk, the good news for the time being is that this is not a series that will likely be coming on the air for a long time. There’s no need to rush into getting it made, so everyone’s got some time to breathe since the book is not even out yet. We’re pretty sure by the time that this project does come out, there will be plenty of people discussing it at length just because it’s HBO. When you are this network, this is what you do more so than anything — you make really great stuff and people then come to you in droves.
In alluding back to earlier in the piece, we should note that American Horror Story is not actually going to cast Trump and Clinton; their version of the election narrative may be more thematic than anything else.
Based on what you know about the people involved in this project, are you excited about it? Or, do you think that we’ve had way too much in terms of political discourse as it is? Share some of your thoughts in the comments below! (Photo: HBO.)
