The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, and more reasons for renewal optimism
Yesterday, the network released some live+35 data that includes both linear and non-linear data for the majority of the shows. Basically, what we’re talking about here is total viewership both in terms of live viewers, plus streams, app, DVR, and on-demand views from September 19, 2016 through January 15, 2017. This gives you a pretty broad range in order to see just how well some of your favorite shows are faring.
As we referenced just a moment ago, here we do really want to cast the spotlight on two different series in particular.
The Blacklist – Through this aforementioned period, the NBC series starring James Spader was bringing in around a 1.1 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. When you factor in there the new information, the show surges all the way up to a 2.9. That’s not all that far off from tripling its previous rating on the air, and this goes to show further that the fan base is still there for the series, albeit in a variety of different ways. It suddenly makes us feel that the chances of The Blacklist renewal are much higher than we previously thought. There are no guarantees, and the best way to give the show more love is to continue to watch it live.
Law & Order: SVU – Meanwhile, the long-running crime procedural almost further cements its season 19 renewal odds from a 1.5 to a 3.9 during this period. The great thing about a show like this is that we can almost always envision the numbers being strong, since there is such an evergreen quality to show with this strong a procedural element. You can watch at any time and out of sequence, and there are very few things that you will miss out on.
The latest that you could learn about renewal news for either show is May, though we do personally hope that something more on the two of them is handed down before we get around to then. Why keep us waiting in the wings for so long?
