Joe Mantegna’s had some great episodes of Criminal Minds as of late, with “Profiling 202” being one major standout in particular. Now, we’re very much pleased to report that you are also going to get a chance coming up to see the actor make an appearance over on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders!
CBS confirmed that Mantegna will be appearing as David Rossi on the upcoming second episode of the season (airing on March 15) entitled “Il Mostro,” which should give you a sense of what the story is going to be about. If it doesn’t, the synopsis for the hour below should:
“When two casualties resemble the M.O. of the most notorious killer in Italian history, the International Response Team is called to investigate.”
The specific role for Rossi in the episode isn’t clear, but we love that the show continues to find ways to do this sort of thing since it allows for opportunities to bring both it and the flagship show together. Not only that, but it also could allow for the ratings for one show to bleed over into the next. Don’t you want that to happen? This is the first time Mantegna has guest-starred on the show since the start of Beyond Borders; hopefully, there will be more in the future.
For the record, there is another notable guest star in this episode as Paul Sorvino guest stars as Dr. Dominic Scarpa, described by CBS as “a venerated surgeon connected to the original case.” We’ll get a little more news on the story as the episode gets closer to airing, but for now, you have to like how the International Response Team isn’t exactly getting an easy introduction into their work this season. The show’s going big right from the start, and that gives you quite a bit to be excited about.
Just as a bonus to all of the news included above, we’ve included a promo for the premiere episode airing Wednesday below. This one is also going to be featuring an appearance from Mantegna’s co-star Kirsten Vangsness. As we mentioned, the franchise is bleeding over now more than ever! We also had a recent Beyond Borders crossover on the “Spencer” episode of Criminal Minds.
