The Voice – Josh West blind audition: Singer rocks ‘Ordinary World’ cover
Josh was a likable guy from the moment that he first walked out on stage, mostly because he was the sort of artist who’s done everything within his power to make the dream happen. He’s also performed the vast majority of his shows with his father, so this was a change of pace for him to go out there on his own. (If he makes the live shows, can his dad join him at some point? How cool would that be?)
The biggest surprise with Josh is just that he was 17 years old. The other surprise was how great a connection that he had to a song like “Ordinary World” from Duran Duran, one that was so deeply rooted in its time and so unbelievably emotional. There was a lot of good stuff within this song from start to finish, and he really cemented his stamp on it. While it wasn’t an altogether different arrangement, it still felt like his own. There may have been a moment or two were the pitch strayed near the end of the performance, but doing rock is almost as much about the passion as anything.
Given that this guy has done more than a hundred shows and is this seasoned at such a young age, he’s going to be a monster if he really makes the moment of his time on the show. We would’ve chosen Adam Levine for him — it’s predictable, but at the same time they seemed to have a good connection even aside from the fact that they have similar music.
In the end, Josh chose … Adam! Smart choice. Boring, but smart. These two have a great chance of going far, and this caps off a really good night for Adam on the show.
