This Is Us season 2 promotion delays How I Met Your Father spin-off

How I Met Your Father spin-off -

How in the world is the How I Met Your Father spin-off series connected to This Is Us? In this article, we’ll explain how the decisions tied to one show could end up leading to the other not coming on the air for a while longer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker have been promoted to co-showrunners alongside Dan Fogelman for the upcoming second season. What this means is that This Is Us will be run a little more by committee, which is important since it gives the show opportunities to stay creative after a breakout first season that won over fans and critics alike.

However, what this means in turn is that How I Met Your Father, which was being quietly developed by Berger and Aptaker for 20th Century Fox TV, is going to have a tough time getting off the ground for at least this year. The series, based conceptually on How I Met Your Mother but not meant to actually feature any characters, was being shopped around to potential networks. Because of the distance between it and the original version of the show, there was no guarantee that it would air on CBS.

While we would have some skepticism about a new version of the show based on how the original one ended, we do maintain that there is something horribly wrong with the entire series being labeled as pure garbage by so many people just because the ending wasn’t what so many people out there expected. There were still so many hilarious moments along the way, and in retrospect we consider it a show more about the story than the way in which it ended. We also don’t think there was anything that inherently wrong with (series finale spoiler alert!) Ted trying to end up with Robin in the end. The big issue that we and so many fans had with the ending of the story was that it wasn’t sold as “how I met your mother, just so you know that so that I can convince you that it’s okay for me to ask out Robin now.”

We’ll see if this idea ever comes to fruition. The more distance that we get from the original series, the more unlikely that the spin-off probably becomes.
