Should new Regina – Robin Hood 2.0 relationship work on Once Upon a Time?
Last night on “Tougher Than the Rest,” the show formally introduced the Wishworld incarnation of Sean Maguire’s character in a way that was far more substantial than a cliffhanger, and what we learned about him was that there was some element of tenderness there. This Robin wasn’t exactly a folk hero — he was a common thief — but he still realized that there may be some merit in getting to know Regina Mills better. Heck, he was willing to travel over from his world back to Storybrooke in order to attempt to make this relationship into something more.
There is certainly a good reason as to why Regina would want to help this Robin, given that she (better than anyone) understands that nothing is necessarily forever when it comes to people exhibiting questionable behavior patterns. Just because this Robin was a thief doesn’t mean he always will be, just like her being the Evil Queen doesn’t mean that she will always want to murder Snow White. She will feel like she can help him.
With that being said, there are still some other questions worth asking — in particular, can you change someone who’s the creation of an alternate universe? Does the brain of this Robin Hood work the same as the brains of other people? To relate this to a science experiment, Regina is at the point right now where she’s done a couple of experiments and she’s at the very least detected some commonalities between this Robin and the one that she previously loved. However, this does not mean that this Robin will end up staying that way. Maybe she does some experiments and realizes that this man cannot be changed, or has some further issues that she did not know about previously. While we’re thrilled to have any Robin back on the show, it remains to be seen if it can last.
