TV Madness 2017: The showdown between Poldark and Blue Bloods in round one

For the second TV Madness showdown of the day (view the one between Bones and Chicago Fire), we’re really looking at two shows that couldn’t be any more different from one another. With Poldark, you’ve got a hit British drama set in another century, one that tells an incredibly serialized story. Meanwhile, with Blue Bloods you have a show that couldn’t be any more America if you had its characters singing the National Anthem at every second. It’s set in the present, and is for the most part very procedural.

Below, we’re going to do our part to break these first-round contenders down further before allowing you to vote below! Remember that voting will be open here, as indicated in the above photo, between now and March 14. The winner here will go on to face either Bones or Chicago Fire in round 2.

Poldark (#2 seed) – A moving, wonderfully-written British drama that airs in America on PBS. Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson are fantastic in telling the tale of Ross and Demelza through their best and most-painful moments. The show was eliminated in the first round of last year’s tournament, but given that it lost to something in Once Upon a Time that went on to win the entire thing, that loss is a bit more understandable. This year may be the chance at a Poldark comeback!

Blue Bloods (#7 seed) – This is its first year in the tournament, and we’re curious how the Tom Selleck – Donnie Wahlberg series will do! It’s a little bit of a wild card given that it’s one of the most-watched series on TV, but at the same time, it also doesn’t get a lot of press and many of its fans are under the radar. Maybe the college basketball equivalent of this (it is TV Madness, after all) would be a school like Arizona, who always tends to be pretty good even if you don’t hear a lot about them before the big dance every year.

Now, we turn the voting for this round over to you! Remember, voting will remain open until March 14, and you are free to cast your vote however many times you like. This is meant to be a fun way to celebrate TV throughout the month of March, so we hope you get the chance to enjoy.
