Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impression leads to book deal

Trump -

Apparently, the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction: We’re getting a Donald Trump book deal, but the book is really Alec Baldwin.

Today, Penguin Press announced that they are working on a new book entitled You Can’t Spell America Without Me: The Really Tremendous Inside Story of My Fantastic First Year as President Donald J. Trump — seriously, that is in fact what it’s called. It’s being written by Baldwin alongside Kurt Anderson, and it will be a satiric take on Trump’s first year in office. We expect it to be big, broad, and completely silly, especially since Alec is going to be recording the audiobook version of it.

Does this sound like it could be funny? Absolutely, but there are some good questions regarding whether or not a fake Donald Trump book could sustain longer than a few paragraphs. What makes the Baldwin impression funny on Saturday Night Live is that you get in, you laugh, and then you go out before the impression starts to lose some of its greatness. This is a deep dive into it — granted, this is probably the most famous impression that there is in 2017, but you still have to wonder how long you’ll enjoy getting a satiric point of view of the Commander-in-Chief.

Still, kudos to Baldwin for finding a way to capitalize on his success. After all, he receives shockingly little money to come to SNL and do the impression that is driving so many of their ratings. Therefore, he’s earned the opportunity to bring it to some other venues. Here’s to seeing if it works for him.

Meanwhile, there are still many people out there clamoring to see the impression front and center for the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an event Trump himself famously decided that he did not want to attend this year over some of the members of the media who would be a part of it.

What do you think: Would you be interested in reading a Trump book co-written by Baldwin, or is this too much of a funny thing? Share in the comments below! (Photo: NBC.)
