Is Bobby Moynihan leaving Saturday Night Live? Signs suggest so

The thought of Bobby Moynihan leaving Saturday Night Live (potentially) is news that could drive Drunk Uncle to drink, especially when you consider the wonderful career that he’s had there. He’s got that Weekend Update character, a wonderful take on Chris Christie, Michael Che’s friend Riblet, and a ton of other great contributions to the show. The greatest thing about him is that anytime you need a worthy scene-stealer, he can deliver with just a line or even a facial expression.

Alas, all good things come to an end, and new indications suggest that such an ending is coming. Per Deadline, Moynihan will be appearing in the CBS pilot My, Myself, & I, a comedy that looks at the life of one Alex Riley over three different periods. Bobby will play the present-day version of the guy, who is in his forties and is an inventor looking to change things up in his life.

If we were to take a long, serious look at the idea of him leaving, what we think could happen here is that he’s putting himself out there for pilots, and maybe he ends up coming back if one of them doesn’t land. There was a time when we wondered this with Kenan Thompson as well. Still, the reality surrounding the potential exit of Moynihan is enough to leave you with divided feelings. Selfishly, you of course want him to stay given that he is one of the strongest overall cast members on the show. Yet, there’s a key word in there: Selfishly. You also do want him to go on and do other things and potentially make more things of his own. You know he’ll be great at it, so eventually you just have to accept that the time is right and then watch them move on.

If this is the final season for Bobby, at least we know that it’s possible in advance. That gives us the time necessary to prepare for it.

Do you think the time is right for Bobby to leave, if that ends up being the case? Tell us your thoughts on that and this potential pilot not below! (Photo: NBC.)
