Outlander season 3: On Jamie – Claire romance ahead; headline rantings!

Outlander -

This is a relatively quiet day on the Outlander front, so we thought that fro today’s notes, we’d focus on picking up on a couple of different things that got a tad lost in shuffle over the crazy past few days in between the Oscars and everything else that was going on.

The first thing worth discussing today comes from the “go figure” section of the news paper — OF COURSE there will be steamy love scenes on the third season of the show. This was confirmed (as if it wasn’t confirmed already) by star Caitriona Balfe at the Oscar Wilde Awards. Specifically, here’s what she had to say to Vulture about some scenes ahead for her and Sam Heughan, which come after aging the Claire / Jamie characters up:

“I think if anything, when Jamie and Claire get together again, their love is timeless and who they are inside is timeless … It was an interesting challenge to play older. That was the fun part about this season: to sort of take that and try to see what 20 years of life does to a person.”

There is more that we could say on the subject in terms of other quotes, but we’ve always felt like the sex-scene part of the show is something that is so extensively covered elsewhere that it’s hard to add anything further to the conversation. We prefer to talk about the romance on a more broader, epic scale, and we absolutely think that there will be plenty on that of that as we begin the journey to the print-shop reunion like no other. Waiting until September is the part that makes it painful.

Can we give the ‘dating’ headlines a rest?

From here, let’s proceed onto a separate rant. How many times do publications need to put some variation on “Sam Heughan – Caitriona Balfe dating” in their headlines? How many times do we need to pound our head into the nearest wall? These people, who continue to publish stories on this subject on repeat, are doing just to cash in on easy search-engine keywords, and have no real respect for the show or its fans in the process … let alone the actors themselves.

Sam and Cait are not dating now, they weren’t dating months ago, and it’s really not much of our business at all who they decide to date. Even if they were dating, it still would feel wrong to exploit it. It doesn’t have any bearing on the show itself, and we’re a TV site. If someone wants to say something about their personal relationship in the midst of an interview, that’s one thing; it’s a different one to make something up and trick people into reading an article by putting it in the title.

Okay, we’ll take a deep breath now and carry on. Just had to get that off our chest.
