Scream Queens season 3 future in jeopardy as Keke Palmer joins new project
According to a new report from Deadline, the actress (who played Zayday on the Fox series for two seasons) is set to join the Epix spy drama Berlin Station. She’ll be playing the part of April Lewis, a case officer assigned overseas where she will have to deal with political turmoil and being the youngest employee of her office. It’s an ambitious role for the actress that feels very much like Homeland.
As for what this means for Scream Queens, let’s backtrack for a minute with that. There is no guarantee that Palmer’s casting means that the show is over. She could feasibly bounce around between the two shows, or maybe Zayday realizes that she’s had enough of the nonsense surrounding Chanel and goes her own way a la Fleetwood Mac. Fox hasn’t commented one way or another on the show’s future, but with declining ratings that weren’t all that good for the first season, there is very little reason to have optimism for the future. It’s better now to set expectations low and see if there is a surprise down the road.
Is it true that Scream Queens would be ending their show on a cliffhanger if they cancel it? Sure, but you also have to remember for a minute or two here that this is just a part of the show’s fabric. It’s very hard to imagine a scenario in which they ever give anyone a truly happy ending. The season 2 finale may be the closest thing that you get to definitive.
For the record, we should learn one way or another the future of Scream Queens come May, when Fox holds their upfront presentation. We don’t blame Palmer or anyone else for seeking out other work; it helps them to ensure that they’ll get to work on some more things without much of a layoff.
