Justin Timberlake opens Oscars 2017 with ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’
Tonight, the 2017 Oscars are airing on ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel had one of the most difficult challenges of all in trying to find a way to impress people who are EXTREMELY cynical. There is no harder job than hosting this show, since everyone wants to find a way to criticize you. Suffice it to say, we were very curious to see how Kimmel opted to open the show tonight. He definitely had unlimited options when it comes to stars at his disposal.
Here’s the funny thing: It was actually Justin Timberlake who opened the show! He gave a performance of “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” one of his hit songs and something that is up for a nomination tonight thanks for it being a part of “Trolls.”
Why make this decision? We figure that the producers wanted to mix things up, and give you something a little bit more fun as an opening number. There wasn’t anything political or dramatic about this. Instead, he just brought people together and got the night off on a positive note. Sometimes, you can claim that a show opening is an indicator of the remainder of it. We don’t exactly think that this is going to be the case here, mostly because of the fact that things have become so contentious in the world today and there are no better chances for people to speak their mind to a large audience.
In getting back to Timberlake’s performance, one of the things that he did to really get people into the show was go out into the crowd and have them dancing. Let’s just say that some stars were more willing to take part in the dancing than others. Specifically, we give kudos to Jessica Biel (Timberlake’s wife) for being extremely game to have fun with him.
Overall, it’s hard to criticize an opening performance that really is focusing on the fun before anything else. We just wish that more shows would consider starting on such a high note.
