Call the Midwife season 6, episode 6 preview: Shelagh’s move

Shelagh -

There is a new episode of Call the Midwife airing on BBC one later in the day, and like so many others before it, the primary impetus here is dealing with change.

For the character of Shelagh, the change we are speaking about here stems far beyond just her pregnancy. Instead, we’re also casting part of the spotlight on her making the decision to move with her family and prepare for a different future. As the sneak peek preview below reveals, though, this is an adjustment, and they are not quite at the point of being able to make it just yet. This is a family that is moving forward to the next phase of their lives, and for now, it’s easy to be thrilled just with the prospect of Shelagh being home. That hospitalization period was rough.

There is a moment of slight concern for one other character in this preview, and to go along with that further, there is also a moment for the story of the week that, out of context, makes lesser sense. The big takeaway of the preview aside from Shelagh’s story is the Cuban Missile Crisis. As an American, we understand this incident more through what was taught in schools, and the period of great uncertainty that came about as a result of that. It was a time of fear throughout the country, and this show may serve as a further means to express just what it was like for families in Britain during this time.

As for the midwives themselves, be prepared to still see some generous character updates and emotional moments for many of them, as well. We just hope that at some point before the final episode airs, there is an indication of Patsy’s future. She departed Poplar for Hong Kong many weeks ago, and it’s been tremendous strange not seeing her around with the remainder of the ensemble.
