‘American Crime Story: Katrina’ casts Matthew Broderick as Michael D. Brown
Today, FX confirmed that the legendary actor is set for the second season of the Ryan Murphy franchise. Specifically, he is going to be playing the part of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown. Brown was a key player in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, especially when it comes to taking on the heavy influx of criticism. The suggestion at the time was that he did not do enough in order to help the people of New Orleans. They were in dire need, and unfortunately many lost hope.
Broderick’s casting follows up the recent news that Annette Bening is set to appear in the series as Kathleen Blanco. For those not familiar, she was the woman who was the Governor of Louisiana at the time of the storm. The event left many within the political sphere of the state wholly unprepared. Murphy’s inspiration for the series is the “crime” that he feels came as a result of the relief effort (or lack thereof).
This will certainly be a controversial project, and we’d argue even more so just because it’s not really the definition of the title per se. Personally, our preference revolves around seeing interesting court cases in this series. A look at Katrina is could be interesting, at least if it were to fall under a different name.
When will “Katrina” premiere?
Alas, not until 2018. “American Crime Story” seasons 2 and 3 are both slated to be coming on the air the same year, and FX / Murphy are currently casting both. For example, the announcement regarding Darren Criss playing a significant role in season 3 as a notable serial killer. Both series are undoubtedly ambitious, but it remains to be seen if they will live up to the expectations that are out there.
One thing we do know is this: Murphy excels at casting. Once again, he finds a way to attract fantastic talent to all of his shows.
