‘American Gods’ premiere date for Starz revealed; Neil Gaiman fans rejoice!
Today, Starz confirmed via the poster below that the adaptation of the Neil Gaiman bestseller, which features Ricky Whittle of “The 100” alongside Gillian Anderson, Ian McShane, Orlando Jones, Dane Cook, Cloris Leachman, and more (it really is an eclectic cast!), will premiere on Sunday, April 30. This is a later premiere date than expected, given that “Black Sails” should end many weeks before.
So why premiere here? There may be something in the network’s metrics that wanted them to get the jump on May sweeps, while airing still for many weeks after it. They obviously have put a lot of time and preparation into making the series the best it can be. Maybe the extra time further ensures this. “American Gods” has “Hannibal” and “Pushing Daisies” alum Bryan Fuller listed as executive producer. That name in itself allows for further hope that Gaiman’s imaginative tone and style will be matched through most of the work.
The poster below is the first significant promo art released to date, and it gives you at least a sense of the show’s tone. The series is basically about a war between old and new gods, and may be a tad complicated to describe fully here. Let’s just say that if you enjoy deep, thought-provoking work with a sense of gravitas, this series in particular could suit your fancy. Also, fans of “The 100” should rejoice in getting to see Whittle again. He’s enormously talented, and we still wish there was a different way for Lincoln’s time on “The 100” to end.
Hunting for a trailer
Presuming that Starz wants to promote the series to the best of their ability, odds are you can expect to see a full trailer at some point in March. You want to give new viewers a chance to familiarize themselves with the brand.
