‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 16 review: Agent Bishop’s revenge breaks rules, Agent Gibbs’ tough choice

NCIS -On Tuesday night the viewers of “NCIS” were left with a possibility of losing one of the main characters on the TV show. Probationary Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop is looking at suffering serious consequences because of her determination to find the killer of her boyfriend Qasim. Over the past several weeks. “NCIS” has offered character driven episodes to viewers offering interesting insight to different agents and Bishop was no exception.

Following a lead of a Navy officer suicide, Agent Gibbs’ team immediately identifies there is more to the story. Making the victim choose whether she would die, or her daughter would get hurt, was one difficult decision. While the team tried to understand what was behind the death, the details started connecting to an ongoing case.

The new evidence led the team to Kai Chen who killed Bishop’s boyfriend Qasim Naasir. They quickly learn his agenda is not only to get away with the murder of Qasim and the Navy officer, but to turn on his partners of crime. He became an asset for another part of the government and is clearly trying to cover for all his bad actions. Looking to trade information for freedom, it appears Chen might never go to jail. As the team is instructed to stand down, the agents take a second look at all the facts to realize there is far more than meets the eye with this case. Chen has access to a virus to blow up power equipment.

As the episode was all about Agent Bishop, viewers saw Bishop go rogue several times. Each time it was in direct defiance of Agent Gibbs and even NCIS Director Leon Vance. Bishop’s actions included tracking down Chen without her team as she gave them the slip. Ultimately she gave him a choice of killing himself or waiting for someone else to do the job. Handcuffing him to a large piece of power equipment, either way his choice would be death.

As revenge is sweet, Agent Gibbs listened as Agent Bishop suggested she’d be willing to go rogue again (if needed) as she could handle the heat. Gibbs’ reply had fans screaming in delight. He basically told her she was in violation of her job and there would be consequences. Leaving a number of questions left unanswered, it was a cliffhanger ending. It’s not clear whether Bishop will be suspended, fired, or just reprimanded for her actions.

We have noticed the last few episodes of “NCIS” have focused on characters and their lives with a unique approach for fans to enjoy. A few of the most interesting episodes included Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, Alexandra “Alex” Quinn and Jimmy Palmer. Viewers learn so much more delving into their lives and background. Agent Bishop’s focus on Tuesday night truly focused on revenge and how she doesn’t want to be part of any team, not even the “NCIS” team. If comparing the episodes, Agent Bishop’s story exposed the darkest character traits of any agent yet (and we can’t admit to liking the idea of defying Agent Gibbs one little bit). Episode grade: A-.
