‘Days of Our Lives’ renewed for season 52

Days -

Time to put a little more sand into the hourglass: There will be more “Days of Our Lives” coming to NBC despite all of the tumultuous headlines of the past several weeks.

As first reported by TVLine, the long-running daytime drama will be coming back in the fall for a record season 52. It’s an incredible honor, and one made possible only thanks to all of the people around the country who continue to find merit and entertainment in some of these stories.

In a statement, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke had the following to say:

“We feel so privileged to be able to continue the remarkable legacy of Days of our Lives … We thank [executive producer] Ken Corday and his team for their incredible accomplishments and look forward to all the stories from Salem that will continue to unfold.”

Meanwhile, Corday also added the following message of his own:

“It’s a great day in Salem… We are grateful to our incredible network and longstanding partner Sony for their continued support, and we look forward to what the future will bring under the new creative direction of the show. I’m especially proud to be able to shepherd Days into the new season, continuing my parents’ dream and the show’s legacy.”

When the news was first announced that we were going to see Megyn Kelly move over from Fox News to the network with a daytime series, the big concern was that there would not be any room for both shows in the daytime schedule. However, this situation seemed to rectify itself somewhat courtesy of “The Today Show” ending its third hour in order to move up the one hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. All of a sudden, there’s now some room to experiment around in there a little bit.

The new season of “Days of Our Lives” will begin later this year.

What’s your reaction to this news, and how long do you think we could see the show continue on for given the ever-changing TV landscape? Be sure to share some of your thoughts right now with a comment! (Photo: NBC.)
