‘The Mick’ starring Kaitlin Olson renewed for season 2 by Fox
Fox continues to be methodical when it comes to renewal announcements, and we’re seeing more and more from them a willingness to not wait to confirm that they are bringing back shows that they are rather proud of.
For the latest example of this, you just have to look at “The Mick.” Per the network, the show has officially ordered another season of the Kaitlin Olson comedy, and this comes midway through it airing its already-extended first season. This is a show that started off fairly strong earlier this year before settling in to a normal timeslot on Tuesdays. The ratings have compared decently to some other Fox comedies, and there’s clearly a sentiment that this is a show with still some room to grow once more and more people discover it.
At the moment, Fox does have a pretty good slate of comedies that are certainly funny, and at times are deserving of a bigger audience than they regularly receive. “New Girl” is almost the show carrying the torch here (it’s the oldest show of the current generation), but we’d also include in there ones like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Last Man on Earth.” These are all shows that we both hope and expect will be given at least one more year on the air.
As for when a second season for “The Mick” could premiere, this may not be the sort of thing that we know for sure until we get around to the upfronts in May. While it’d be nice to see it back in the fall, it certainly wouldn’t be a huge issue to us if the network opted instead to hold on to it until midseason, where it could help to patch a few cracks that are going on in the schedule.
