Ratings: How did ‘The Good Fight’ do in CBS airing? ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ wins poor night
There isn’t much in the way of newsworthy discussion points from Sunday night’s television lineup, so we’re going to spend the majority of our time here discussing things in the context of “The Good Fight,” the ambitious new CBS All Access series that had a chance to premiere on the network proper last night.
How were the ratings? From our vantage point, pretty good considering the circumstances. The show generated a 0.7 rating and then also more than 7 million viewers. Sure, if this was a proper series we’d be stamping it with DOA status and focusing some of our attention elsewhere; yet, this is not an ordinary series by any means. This is one that is heading online after this episode, and we feel like even if the show can get around 2-3 million viewers weekly on “All Access,” it could be a hit. Remember — if CBS All Access picks up even one million extra subscribers off of this over the course of the season and they all stay subscribe for three months, that’s $18 million. That’s nothing to sneeze at, and it could be more given that some may opt for the commercial-free plan, and that’s not including the ad revenue for people with the cheaper plan.
Streaming is a different beast, and unfortunately, it’s going to be incredibly hard to know what some of the ACTUAL numbers for “The Good Fight” are when it moves itself over to this platform. Are we still interested in finding out? Absolutely, but that may come via the show possibly getting renewed down the road. The fact that this many people watched, knowing full well that this was only a preview and the rest of the series would be online, is encouraging.
Elsewhere on the night, the big winner was “NCIS: Los Angeles,” though it even tumbled down to a 1.1 rating, its lowest number in quite a while. It was surrounded by both “The Good Fight” and “Elementary” (0.7), so it wasn’t like it was given all that much to work with.
Next Sunday, the Oscars will be pulling much of everything off of the air, and you’re really going to have to wait until March 5 for the night to heat up once more when it comes to ratings.
