‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum Sara Ramirez blasts ABC for airing ‘The Real O’Neals’ bisexual comment
ABC is in controversy yet again thanks to “The Real O’Neals,” though this time it has to do more with a joke that made it onto the air than anything said by the show’s star Noah Galvin in an interview.
Specifically, we’re referencing a January 17 episode of the comedy in which Galvin’s character of Kenny made a comment about bisexuality, proclaiming to be a complication like “money problems” or being born with webbed toes. The comment was meant to be a joke by a cynical character, but it still raised eyebrows and now has one former network star speaking out.
In a series of posts on her official Twitter, bisexual actress Sara Ramirez, who played Callie for multiple seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” addressed the comments and urged ABC to own up to their mistake and “empower” young bisexual men and women to be comfortable in their own skin. After this, she made it clear that she will “invest [her] brand” where she feels respected. With that being said, it does appear as though we’re probably not going to be seeing her on “Grey’s Anatomy” anytime soon, which is probably going to be sad for many people.
To us, possibly the biggest surprise of all here is the simple fact that ABC chose to air these particular comments in the first place, especially since their comedy lineups tend to be edgy, but only in a way that appeals to viewers of all ages. To be fair, “The Real O’Neals” airs later than some of the other shows, and is certainly controversial at times when it comes to its content. Still, this comment was in our view a mistake to air, especially at a time in which so many people do feel persecuted and other attack — even if the comment wasn’t meant as serious, you can’t project your intention onto how other people are going to feel. This is a message that we personally have stressed time and time again.
What do you think both of the controversy, and of Ramirez’s response to it? Share in the comments below! Meanwhile, head over here in the event you want some other news when it comes to “Grey’s Anatomy.” (Photo: ABC.)

Stop whining. It was a joke. God some people are so over sensitive.
