‘Call the Midwife’ season 6, episode 5 preview: Where’s Sister Mary Cynthia?

Call the Midwife -

For those of you who were wondering how “Call the Midwife” was going to be functioning moving forward this season without Patsy Mount, it seems as though life will go on for Nonnatus House — they’ll be bringing in someone new to take her place, at least for now.

Next week is going to formally introduce a new nurse in Valerie Dyer to the mix. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of news about her just yet beyond what we’ve seen from her on the show already. (She decided to apply for the position tonight.)

Synopsis – “Nonnatus House welcomes a new recruit, Nurse Valerie Dyer. A vulnerable young man captures Fred and Violet’s hearts, whilst the whereabouts of Sister Mary Cynthia is a concern.”

One thing that is rather interesting here is that after releasing VERY thorough, detailed synopses for their episodes recently, the show is being a tad more coy in sharing the upcoming story this time. The only things that are certain is that we’ll be getting to see a new face, and there is going to be a search for Mary Cynthia. We understand why there would be immediate concern when it comes to the location of this character, mostly because of what happened with Sister Evangelina on the show in the past. This is not a situation that anyone wants to see replicated, so it’s best to take a “better safe than sorry” approach with her.

This episode also kicks off the second half of the season formally, and that should be a reminder of just how quickly this series tends to move. It feels like this show starts and ends almost simultaneously, and much of that is a sheer testament to how quickly that the story tends to move. We just hope that by the time we get to the end of this episode, we get some further updates on things like Tom and Barbara’s engagement that have REALLY served as a slow burn to date.
