‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episode 13 preview: The state of Spencer Reid
For months, Wednesday night’s “Criminal Minds” (entitled “Spencer”) has been advertised and hyped as a game-changer. It could fundamentally change the character forever, and it could give Matthew Gray Gubler a chance to give an earth-shattering performance.
What’s long been a mystery, though, is what this episode is actually going to be about. Before today, we’d heard that it would involve Spencer in some capacity being trapped in Mexico, but it wasn’t clear if he was being tormented by an UnSub or some other mysterious entity. Given the nature of some of these character-titled episodes on this show, our early assumption was that he was being subjected to some sort of terrible torture.
However, what the promo below reveals to us instead is that it just so turns out that the Spencer character is actually behind bars! He’s be trapped in another country, and apparently accused of murder. To make matters worse, Spencer isn’t going to have all that great of a recollection as to what actually happened to him in the process. We’re going to see a “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” crossover, but then also some struggles with the BAU when it comes to figuring out precisely what they can do in order to help him … if they can help him at all. Given that Prentiss and company don’t have a lot of jurisdiction there, we have to think that this going to be a challenge for them to take on.
If there is one bit of good news that we have about this episode at present, it’s this: It doesn’t appear as though Reid’s life is in any obvious danger. Let’s hope that persists over the course of the hour, since it’d be awfully hard to lose another longtime cast member so soon after the exits of Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore.

Shemar left on his own accord and I stayed. Thomas Gibson got fired and I stayed ( really didn’t’ care if he stayed or went.) If MGG goes, so do I. Although I am enjoying the present cast, I feel that too many chances will ruin the show. Now, if they want to finally give Reid a wife and child, then, that would be icing on the cake.. Can;t wait for Wednesday
