‘Riverdale’ episode 4 preview: Tension between Betty, Archie mounts

Riverdale -Is “Riverdale” really Archie at all? It’s an interesting question, mostly because there are such stark differences between the world devised by the show and the classic comics. We do think the brand recognition helps the show in the sense that it gives you some familiar touchstones — such as the relationship between Betty and Archie. However, simultaneously there are so many liberties that the show takes that you start to wonder if it would be possible for it to exist even without the Archie connection there. We do think that many of the stories would be just as entertaining, and would have a wide array of twists and turns to go along with it.

Next week’s new episode is going to feature some more trouble for Betty and Archie, but it’s certainly not innocent given that she’s uncovered some interesting news when it comes to Miss Grundy — news that could change quite a bit.

As if this was not enough, though, we’re also going to see on the coming episode Alice do something that could put another dent in the friendship between the two, and it’s all thanks to a diary (in Riverdale, people do still keep them):

Synopsis – “When Jughead (Cole Sprouse) learns that an anonymous buyer has plans to tear down the local drive-in, he fights desperately to keep it open. Betty (Lili Reinhart) finds her friendship with Archie on the line after stumbling upon some startling information she’s uncovered about Miss Grundy’s (guest star Sarah Habel) past. Elsewhere, Veronica (Camila Mendes) confronts her mother Hermoine (Marisol Nichols) about a suspicious meeting she witnessed between her mother and a shady Southside Serpent. Finally, after uncovering Betty’s diary, Alice (Madchen Amick) finds the perfect opportunity to destroy Archie’s golden boy image.”

Based on the first three episodes, the show’s found an interesting balance of reality, drama, and humor. We don’t see that changing now.
