‘MacGyver’ episode 15 preview: Clearly, Jack has seen ‘Westworld’
Friday night’s new episode of “MacGyver” is going to have a serious edge to it, as Matty Webber’s goddaughter and her boyfriend are going to be found dead at a San Francisco park. However, it’s also going to have some humor and some aspects to the investigation that are far beyond what you would have ever possibly expected. For example, the idea that the Zodiac Killer may have returned to carry out some more murders.
We don’t get too much of a sense of either of these things in the sneak peeks below; however, we do get plenty of laughs. The first sneak peek, for example, is Mac being forced to be Narrator Mac within the confines of a scene, as Matty is completely dissatisfied with him fiddling around with “garbage” while working at a crime scene. He explains himself, and then proceeds to make it clear just how valuable some of his methods are. After all, without them, it’s very well possible that the job would have had to wait for forensics.
Meanwhile, the second sneak peek is great just because of Jack’s apparent fear of a robot uprising. Our conclusion here is that either Jack has spent too much time watching “Westworld,” or that he hated watching “The Jetsons” as a kid. It’s too hard to know at the moment which is more accurate. These are the sort of scenes that we do love about this show, though, since they give us a chance to learn a little bit more about the characters, while also still framing them in an environment that is important to the case and getting the job done. They’re an asset rather than a distraction, and very much appreciated.
Hopefully, this episode continues along the trajectory of the new Phoenix Foundation with Webber as the lead. We can’t imagine Mac ever halting some of his techniques. The benefit that comes from her being here is that it does present additional opportunities for there to be someone in the room who challenges him. It keeps him at the top of his game.
