‘Survivor: Game Changers’ preview: Another immunity idol twist coming

Survivor -It feels at this point almost that for every season of “Survivor,” there is another twist when it comes to the hidden immunity idol and how it can be used and played. For “Survivor: Game Changers,” what we’re seeing is no exception. The difference here seems to be the simple fact that the only rule this time around seems to be that there are no rules. There is no rhyme or reason as to how they will be turning up, and how players will find them.

As a matter of fact, here is what host Jeff Probst had to say on this particular subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“Given that it is Game Changers, we’re going to change the game constantly. So when it comes to idols, there will be no consistency. Usually there’s a theme. You have to find them in a certain way or work a certain amount of effort to get it. Not this time. One might drop in your lap, one might be at Tribal, one might be at the bottom of the well, one might be at a challenge. It depends how often idols get played for how far down the list we’ll get. Because if idols are held until the end, then we won’t see anything and we’ll use them next year. But if things go well and people start playing their idols — which I think will happen — it could be a really fun and crazy adventure to watch them and what they have to do to get them.”

This idea feels reasonably reminiscent to “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” in that there were so many ways in which idols and clues were found in that season, but never on this particular scale. The only objection that we have is the idea of one being hidden at Tribal, which feels as though it should be sacred and somewhat separate from the remainder of the game. Then again, maybe someone out there felt that way about the challenges, and one of the most exciting things about watching them in “Survivor: Cambodia” was getting to see someone actually make good on having a clue and being able to actually snatch the idol up with so many potential eyes on them. (We suppose one of the issues that comes with bringing that back in a traditional sense is that people know to watch for it now, especially in a season with all returning players.

Earlier today, we gave out some quick-takes on most of the cast of the show, and you can check that out over at the link here. Next week, we’ll start spotlighting all of the contestants, but before we get around to that there’s one other important thing that we’re going to do: Discuss snubs! This will be the focus of the next new article coming tomorrow, since there are a few people who should’ve been considered for the season over some who made it on. (Photo: CBS.)
