‘The Bachelor’ tries to make a big deal out of Nick Viall ‘leaving’

Every season of “The Bachelor,” we see something like this happen; we’re just not sure if it’s ever been done on the same sort of grand scale that the show is attempting to highlight now. Odds are, you know what we’re speaking of: The tradition of seeing someone doubt their ability to find the right person. They have a mini-meltdown, get some alone time, and then have a sit-down with Chris Harrison where he makes it all better for them.

It’s hard to say what makes everything so different for Nick Viall’s season — maybe his decision to step away from the women was a little more dramatic than in past seasons, but we don’t see this as anything more than a temporary blip in the radar. The show’s not canceling itself and sending everyone home before hometowns! Don’t you think we would’ve heard something by now?

Anyhow, ABC teases a little bit of what is going to be coming up with Nick’s “dilemma” in the synopsis below:

“After suffering through an intense volleyball group date last week with the upset women and a shattering two-on-one date with Danielle L. and Whitney, a tearful Nick admitted to the women that he was unsure if this process would work for him this time. He leaves the bachelorettes and walks out on his chance to find his soul mate. Now, the drama continues as the women are dumbfounded after Nick’s exit and need to deal with the ramifications of this gut-wrenching blow that they have been dealt. All of Nick’s relationships are called into question.”

The biggest hope that we’ve got looking at this episode is that Nick’s “coming back to the women and explaining himself” moment is a little more interesting than it appears on paper. Right now, we feel like it all is a little bit vanilla — of course they’ll shrug off his indecision as part of the process. We want more tension! We want some of them to wonder why he’s doubting so much whether or not this experience is right for him.
