‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 12 preview: Why ‘Bratva’ may be Diggle-focused

Arrow -Coming into Wednesday night’s new episode of “Arrow” entitled “Bratva,” the easiest assumption to make is that we’re starting to lean into a big episode for Oliver Queen (aren’t they all big episodes for him?), given that we are stepping back into his old stomping grounds in Russia and much of the flashbacks this season have been focused on this particular place.

However, the story is smartly not that simple — instead, this could be a story that could be more geared around the John Diggle character and for good reason. At present, General Walker is his Big Bad in so many ways, given that he’s the guy he’s been battling in some form or another since last season. He’s the reason he’s been locked away, and Prometheus took advantage of this tense relationship in getting him behind bars for a second time. What’s great about where he is now is that he’s a free man, and this mission offers up Diggle a chance to get revenge.

Also, let’s rejoice for a moment that this episode could provide an opportunity for him to get a little bit closer to being back where he really belongs: With the rest of the team. With him finally getting integrated full into the team again, we have a feeling that there are many more OTA moments in the episodes ahead than we’ve had at any point before this since last season. We know that there is a certain percentage of the audience that has been upset about the lack of his inclusion, and we do understand this to a certain extent. The original team together is a big part of what makes this ship run. They’re the most exciting and dynamic when they’re paired together — but at the same time, we don’t want to take away from the new team members, either. They may be polarizing to some, but we do enjoy their presence and how they mix things up.
