‘Outlander’ season 3: Farewell to Scotland (for now)

Outlander -Over the past week and a half, we’ve shared some various farewells when it comes to the Scottish portion of “Outlander” season 3. Last week, stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe filmed their last scenes on-location for the series. Meanwhile, yesterday we saw Lotte Verbeek wrap up some filming of her own.

Now, we can officially confirm that the today is the final day of filming for the Starz series in general in the country, as executive producer Maril Davis confirmed as much on Twitter. The cast and crew have been working rather tirelessly for many months now, and production is now going to be shifting over to the other side of the world. Specifically, we’re talking about South Africa, where filming will take place later in the spring. (The country is serving as a stand-in for Jamaica, much in the way that “Black Sails” used it for much of the Caribbean.)

The end of filming in Scotland means that it’s time to give a tremendous round of applause to all of the local crew who work hard on making this show into the best product that it can possibly be. This show in particular is an enormous undertaking in between the sets, the locations, the costumes, and occasionally doing things in two separate time periods. It’s cinematic enough to be a feature film, and the show effectively has to make one many times over within the span of a single year. The show’s done so much, and there is still much more work to be done.

We could go off now on some other tear about how desperate we are to see the show premiere, but we also recognize that we’ve done that several times over at this point. Not only that, but we recognize that quality is worth waiting for, and whenever we get the show it’ll be a thrill to be able to watch and cover it once more. The same goes for any teasers / trailers Starz decides to release. Obviously, the greedy part of us wants them sooner rather than later, but the endgame philosophy remains the same.
