‘Outlander’ season 3: A Geillis Duncan update
It feels like in many of our “Outlander” updates over the past several weeks we’ve spent a good bit of time discussing the characters of Jamie and Claire, but of course there are many other important names who are firmly ingrained in the fabric of this story! One of the most important ones is of course Geillis Duncan, given that she is the rare character who has had a rather significant role in both the past and the present for Claire Fraser. She’s also someone who are going to be an important cog in the story of the third season, which is based on the Diana Gabaldon book Voyager.
(We hesitate to say too much more about Geillis’ story coming up, mostly because we know that there are people who are watching the show without intimate knowledge of the books. Let’s just say that there are SEVERAL different key events that could be coming for the character soon depending on how they are interpreted on the show.)
Lotte Verbeek is the actress behind the role, and she made it clear recently on Twitter that today marks her last day of filming for the time being. We told you recently that the show is filming some interior shots over the course of the next few days, following Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe doing their last location work in Scotland before they depart for South Africa later this year to wrap things up for the season. The interior filming that’s being done should be completed this week — whether or not there is any more beyond that before South Africa remains to be seen. What makes Geillis Duncan such an interesting character is her power and bravery — and also that you don’t always know precisely where she stands.
On a side note, if you’re an “Outlander” fan who hasn’t seen much of “The Blacklist,” go check out the season 3 episode entitled “Cape May.” Verbeek has a guest appearance in the hour, and it is probably one of our favorite episodes of that series.
New episodes of “Outlander” will premiere at some point later this year; we of course do wish there was something more concrete to say on the subject, but we’ve definitely written plenty on the subject recently!
