‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: Super Bowl teaser features Lucille versus football

For everyone out there who loves “The Walking Dead” but loathes NFL football, we suppose that there is probably some great news coming out of the fact that there is no more NFL programming cramming up the schedule for the next several months. The season is over, and now we’re left to focus on some other things — including the return of Negan on the AMC drama.

The Super Bowl teaser below is incredibly simple, but also pretty fun given that there aren’t too many occasions in which you get to see Negan’s famous baseball bat Lucille pummel a football. It’s a reminder that this time of the year is now over, and we can press onward now to new “Walking Dead” episodes airing in one week’s time.

From a marketing standpoint, it’s an interesting move to continue to focus on Negan just because of how polarizing he was in the first season. There seemed to be two major critiques coming out of the first eight episodes: The central villain may have been a tad over-the-top, and the pacing around him far too slow. It’s hard to say anything about the former moving into the next part of the season, but things to be changing with the latter as we start to see more and more people come together with the unified goal of taking Negan down a few notches. He’s going to face larger threats than he ever has before, and for anyone watching this show, you know that this is necessary. You want to see there being some semblance of hope that the good guys are going to win, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
