‘Saturday Night Live’: Why Andrew Lincoln of ‘The Walking Dead’ should host
We’re in the midst of our SNL Wishlist series, and the focus of it almost speaks for itself: Spotlight people from the TV world who really should be hosting “Saturday Night Live” in the near future.
Let’s start here with a question: Why in the world have we not seen someone from “The Walking Dead” hosted this show before? There are certainly petitions out there to get various people to host the show, and it’s odd to imagine why it hasn’t come about. “SNL” has booked other TV stars like Kerry Washington and Aziz Ansari before, and it’s not like the AMC zombie drama is in production for most of its season. There are many different weeks in which this could happen, and it’d be great to see someone in a different environment for a change. For the sake of this article, we want to talk about a guy in Andrew Lincoln who we know has a rather great sense of humor, even though you don’t always get to see it all that often on the show itself.
Why he should host – Maybe he can prank some of the other cast members? Beyond that, the biggest argument to giving Lincoln the gig for us, beyond how excellent he is on the show, is just how much more we want to know about him and his skill set. We don’t actually see nearly as much of him as we would like to, and we even mean that in terms of other late-night appearances. This show would give him a chance to go out, be loose, and make fun of himself a little bit. We know that he’s funny, and we feel like he’d convince a fellow cast member or two to make a cameo. (Heck, Norman Reedus lives in New York when he is not working on the show.)
Would he do a “Walking Dead” parody? He could, but given that we did just see one with Dave Chappelle there may not be that much of a need to do one in the near future. That may give Lincoln a chance to tackle some other things.
Will it actually happen? – We would be surprised in the event that we don’t end up seeing a “Walking Dead” star hosting “SNL” by the time we get around to the end of the series. It’s all a matter of timing, but what better time is there to do this than right now? The show is still popular, and Lincoln still has a little bit of time before he has to be back at work on the show. If you could get him in March while the show is still airing, that seems like it would be the best of both worlds. He can promote “The Walking Dead,” and the comedy show can benefit from his following.
