Febreze uses their Super Bowl commercial to tribute halftime bathroom breaks
Within this article, we’ll certainly give a little bit of credit to the folks over at Febreze for coming up with a memorable ad for Super Bowl LI — we’re not sure if it is incredibly funny or incredibly disgusting, but one way or another, it’s memorable. Sometimes, that is really all that you can ask for when it comes to this sort of thing.
Below, we’re going to offer up our FULL take on this ad, which actually does run for a rather-long stretch of time given how expensive some of these ads are. Luckily, we don’t think it ever gets boring.
What worked – Over the course of the LONG game, there are of course some things that happen — specifically, people over time need to use the bathroom! That is where Febreze comes into play, especially because of all the gross stuff that people are eating. All of this stuff is probably true, and we’re fine with the company getting to the honest truth in this ad. Is it a little bit gross? Sure, but Febreze is a odor-remover company. It makes sense for them to be talking about it. Having this idea transposed with such an epic presentation is in part why we find this commercial so great.
What didn’t – While we did just say that we like the idea of the commercial, we understand that some don’t want THIS much bathroom humor in the middle of the broadcast. Out of the non-political ads that are taking place during the game, this is probably going to be one of the more polarizing ones.
Overall – In this day and age, it feels like people have a whole lot more to be offended about than a Super Bowl ad featuring a ton of toilets. We think this is incredibly funny and super memorable, and it translates well to the brand. It’s hard to say what more Febreze could do in terms of giving proper promotion to their company. Grade: A-.
