NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 12 promo features Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton in sitcom opening

The Voice -For those of you who love “The Voice,” there’s a chance that some of you haven’t see the promo below for season 12 already. However, those of you who are in Canada are getting a chance to check this ad out for the first time during CTV’s Super Bowl coverage.

What the show’s done this time around is pretty genius, mostly in how it plays heavily into the sort of nostalgia that many people have towards sitcoms as a great form of entertainment. This is devised as an old-school sitcom opening, and you get to meet Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, the returning Gwen Stefani, and even host Carson Daly in a traditional sitcom opening credits scene. It’s genius, it’s silly, and it’s thoroughly entertaining to boot. Basically, this is precisely everything that you could possibly want to promote a new season — at least in terms of one that doesn’t involve music at all.

We do feel like “The Voice” does face a few challenges yet in and year out when it comes to how they want to promote the show, mostly because stylistically, what you’re looking at here is roughly the same show year in and year out — at least in terms of format. The struggle is that they need to find some new and rather interesting ways in which to promote it, and we have a feeling that this is not always an easy thing to do.

With this lineup in general, creating an air of familiarity a la a sitcom is the right way to go. You already know and love these coaches, and there is a really great rapport between them to go along with that. With this in mind, the show’s absolutely doing the right thing when it comes to going in this direction — you’re playing up the chemistry that is already there between some of the people.

Ultimately, we’ll see how great this season of “The Voice” truly is when it premieres on NBC later this month.
