‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ season 3: Will Rebecca really be over Josh?

The finale for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” aired on The CW last night, and to say that this one ended in a stunner would be making one of the biggest understatements out there. It’s one thing for a relationship to end because of cold feet, but then there’s going completely the other way and joining the priesthood. This is basically going from “about to marry someone” to “going off to not be with anyone potentially ever.” Suffice it to say, quite a transition — and there’s a reason why Rebecca is now vowing to destroy him. We’ve seen the love side of the coin; now, we’re about to see the rage.

Now that we’ve said that, Rebecca’s potential actions in season 3 hardly mean that she’s over Josh. After all, executive producer Aline Brosh McKenna notes (per TVLine) that “psychologically speaking, hating someone is the same as loving them. Because the opposite of love is apathy. It’s not hatred. It’s the flip side of an obsession.” Basically, if Rebecca wanted to move on from Josh, she could and she would. She’d move on to the next phase of her life.

Given that there is this revenge tour that she has in her head, McKenna also notes that this could eventually open the door to eventually having romantic feelings for him once more. When you are as obsessive over someone as Rebecca is Josh, it’s certainly possible for your emotions to tilt on a dime. This is something that is easy to imagine happening if he does decide the priesthood is not for him, or makes some grand gesture asking for her forgiveness. She may be flip back towards him easier than most, or at the very least manifest her passion in a different.

Ultimately, Josh isn’t gone from the show, and as long as the writing remains smart and the performances fun, we’re going to be happy.
