‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ season 3: Return date speculation for Rachel Bloom series
Tonight, the song is over for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” at least for the time being. Tonight’s episode features a potential wedding between Rebecca and Josh — we’re not going to spoil what happens in the event you haven’t seen it yet; therefore, we’re not going to focus much on that.
Instead, let’s cast the focus for a minute on the future of the show, starting of course with when you’ll be seeing Rachel Bloom and company back on the air: During the 2017-18 television season. The great news is that The CW already renewed it for a third season. Programming head Mark Pedowitz seemed to be aware of some of its ratings challenges while speaking tor reporters at TCA, but he made it clear that there are some instances to him where some other things are just as important as ratings. Specifically, he was talking about the ability to get attention and respect from critics and award shows out there. He recognizes the brilliance of the show, and wants it to stick around for a little while.
Now, you just have to think in terms of possible premiere dates. While it would be nice to see the show back on the air on a night other than Fridays, it’s hard to see that happening given the ratings. We’re likely going to see the show on the air again in October, and in this same timeslot. We don’t see it coming back later than the fall, mostly because premiering later than that keeps it away from Golden Globe consideration. It’s also a great thing to promote as a part of the network’s fall lineup — it’s a comedy, and it both looks and sounds different than anything else that is on the air.
Hopefully, you’ll get a little more information regarding this when The CW has their annual upfront presentation this May. It’s unlikely that we get any further news on the subject before then.
