‘Timeless’ finale spoilers: First scoop on ‘The Red Scare’

Timeless -The season finale of “Timeless” is going to be airing on NBC come Monday, February 20, and earlier this week, the network finally lifted the veil on some of what you can expect to see — including just what era we’re going to be seeing the show visit.

Specifically, the finale is entitled “The Red Scare,” and we are going to be heading to an era of great political paranoia and manipulation — the 1950’s. (Yes, we could have easily made a joke here.) The team will chase Garcia Flynn back to 1954, where in Washington DC there will be a chance to take down Rittenhouse once and for all. Joe McCarthy, the figure at the center of the Red Scare, will be appearing in the episode and is played by Spencer Garrett (“Bosch,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “Aquarius”).

Is there a way to stop this organization? We absolutely hope so, but we imagine that it won’t be easily — and that it could take some of our heroes making a big sacrifice in the process. What happens in this episode could potentially send shockwaves that reverberate through all of history, so we like to think that there are some high stakes at the center of the story.

Beyond all of the details that we’ve shared here, one of the biggest questions that we have is simply a matter of cliffhangers. Will the writers choose to actually give you a cliffhanger at the end of the season? It’d be a bold, but risky, move given that there is no confirmation of a season 2, and it’s feasible that there may not be one from now until May. (Trust us, we’re going to be beating a drum for a renewal every step of the way, so that is something you really should watch out for. We’d obviously love it if NBC made the announcement on the future clear at some point before we get around to the finale airing.)
