‘Outlander’ season 3 hits a filming milestone; further premiere speculation

While we may not know precisely yet when “Outlander” season 3 is going to be premiering on Starz, we can come to you today bearing some good news: There is no longer any need to wonder as to how much longer production is going to last in Scotland.

We’ve now heard that filming for the third season out on location is completed, pending something that arises down the road. This is seemingly confirmed further by the rather-breathtaking photo posted on star Sam Heughan’s Twitter account.

As for what is next, there is still quite a bit of filming to do given that the series will be transferring itself over to South Africa, which is going to double for some of the Caribbean / Jamaica scenes in the story. There is already a great familiarity there between Starz and the location, as this is where “Black Sails” has predominantly filmed many of their scenes. In heading there, the show may benefit from many contacts who are already familiar with the sort of scenery and filming that needs to be done in order to recreate the region’s signature beauty. (This location has also been used for “Homeland,” which further proves its versatility.) This filming will take place before too long, and from there, we’re simply set to wonder about when we will get to see much of it in action.

The “American Gods” of it all – Given that this new series (which we’re rather excited about, given that Bryan Fuller is a visionary and a very fascinating man) is set to premiere this spring on Starz, it does raise questions as to what is going to happen with the return of “Outlander” to the air. There are a couple of different possibilities that you can look at here — maybe Starz is going to double up on drama series for the first time since expanding their lineup, or maybe “Outlander” will premiere a tad later this year than it has in the past. If it is the latter, you do have to wonder precisely what this would mean for the upcoming fourth season of “Power.” This show tends to premiere in the summer, but could it end up being held until the fall? We can’t get into the head of network executives, but we’re eager to find it all out.
