‘Doctor Who’ season 11: Ben Whishaw, Richard Ayoade already generating buzz as Peter Capaldi replacements

Doctor Who -Only in Great Britain can there be such a thing as bookies making odds as to who is going to be the next star of “Doctor Who.” Despite there being not a whole lot of actual public knowledge yet concerning who could be in the role from a production standpoint, there are some names out there that folks are still confident in as choices.

Who’s at the top of this said list? Think along the lines of Ben Whishaw. The former James Bond actor is being considered the favorite, followed by comedian Richard Ayoade after that. Meanwhile, Rory Kinnear and former “Call the Midwife” star Miranda Hart are also high on the list — though we have a hard time seeing how Miranda finds the time for this given that she couldn’t find the time as of late to appear on the current season of “Call the Midwife.”

One thing to strongly remember here is that at the time Matt Smith first announced that he was going to be leaving the show, there were countless rumors out there regarding the next Doctor, and few of them featured the name Peter Capaldi at the center. It was only in the weeks leading up to the announcement that he ended up becoming the favorite before eventually landing the part.

Meanwhile, one other thing to consider here is that Steven Moffat is not the showrunner anymore. Chris Chibnall is taking that title, and as a result of that, he’s going to be the person making the final season. It’s really rather difficult to gauge what someone is going to do when they don’t even have the job just yet.  We figure that the announcement of the next Doctor will likely come over the summer; that way, the show can promote it leading up to the Christmas Special in which the regeneration will happen.

If you missed it, you should head over here to read our list of personal favorites who should be considered for the next Doctor. Let’s just say that the list includes a former “Agent Carter” star and many more names. (Photo: BBC.)
