‘The Good Place’ renewed for season 2; now, we can all be in a good place
NBC announced some great news for today when it comes to “The Good Place” — and it’s not a fake-out quick like the show’s central premise was. We are officially going to be getting a second season of the Kristen Bell – Ted Danson comedy! The news was announced this morning, which means that we are going to get another batch of 13 episodes to see precisely what is going to be coming up next.
While the ratings for the first season of the show were not necessarily spectacular, they were fairly steady following the first couple of episodes. This, plus the massive amount of critical acclaim that is out there for the show, probably helped to propel NBC to make this decision long before the upfront presentation in May.
Speaking in a new statement, network boss Jennifer Salke had the following message to pass along:
“Mike Schur has always had one of the most fertile and imaginative minds in comedy, but what he brought us with the first season of ‘The Good Place’ was just extraordinary. We absolutely can’t wait to see where these characters go, literally, in season two. A big thank you to Mike, the writers and cast for delivering a series in which we all take such enormous pride.”
The cliffhanger entering the second season of the show was an enormous one, with Bell’s Eleanor coming to the conclusion that “The Good Place” was actually the Bad Place all along, and that Danson’s Michael had created it as a means to torment an isolated group of residents. He surrounded them with their insecurities only to let everything hit the fan. The one thing that he had underestimated all along was that these people would come to get along over time … and that Janet would fall in love with one of them. As their memories were reset, Eleanor actually stuffed a note in Janet’s mouth that she could retrieve from her down the road.
