‘The Young Pope’ episode 6 preview: Lenny meets Italy’s Prime Minister
Thanks to it airing on two nights of the week, “The Young Pope” on HBO is moving around rather nicely! We’ve got one new episode coming up on HBO tonight, and there is another installment that will be coming up beyond this on Monday. We’re already at the halfway point of the season.
So in terms of what is coming up now on the series, one of the biggest things seems to be an opportunity to see exactly what is going to happen when Lenny a.k.a. Pius XIII wades more into Italian politics.
Synopsis – “Nine months after being elected, Lenny (Jude Law) has a testy first meeting with the Italian prime minister (Stefano Accorsi), a progressive at odds with Pius XIII’s uncompromising vision of the church. Newly minted Cardinal Gutierrez (Javier Cámara) reluctantly moves out of the Vatican for his new assignment abroad. After a brief reunion with the faithful in Honduras, Dussolier (Scott Shepherd) assumes his new duties as Prefect of the Congregation of the Clergy, but is thrown by Lenny’s strict guidelines towards prospective priests. Voiello (Silvio Orlando) is questioned about the disappearance of Tonino (Franco Pinelli), who is looking to break from the church. Ester’s (Ludivine Sagnier) miracle comes true.”
What is so interesting about this show is that it looks at different issues pertaining to the church differently than you see them anywhere else. Therefore, we imagine that there are going to be some controversial topics addressed in this episode, especially as you start to see some clashes between the Vatican and the government in Rome and beyond. Also, kudos to the show for continuing to present something that is global, and has an impact that is far more widespread than anything that you are going to see in just one place. This obviously makes sense, given that the Catholic religion has no borders at all.
