ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 6 spoilers: Cyrus’ future will be clear soon
While “Scandal” promised us that we would have a chance to learn who won the Presidential Election at some point fairly early in the season, at the same time there were ZERO promises made regarding those results being permanent. Somehow, though, we didn’t think of things going off the rails quite like they did.
Where are we now? Think of it this way: Vargas is dead, and while Fitz recommended Cyrus to the Electors to be the new Commander-in-Chief, new information is out there suggesting that he may have ordered the hit on his Presidential running mate to get the post himself. We know that Cyrus is power-hungry, just as we also know that he happens to be a good actor. He’s the sort of guy you have to fear if you’re cognizant and aware in this world.
ABC released recently the first details for the third episode of the season entitled “Survival of the Fittest,” and that title could be appropriate given some of what we’re going to learn in this episode. Cyrus will be put up to a microscope in this episode, and his future in one way or another is going to be determined by the end of the hour.
We have to give the show some credit for not tipping their cap too much one way or another when it comes to the events of the story ahead even in some of their photos — take a look at the picture above, which features both Jeff Perry and Bellamy Young standing right behind Kerry Washington. You have to suspect that was intention to create further ambiguity regarding precisely what was going to be coming up next. The fact that there are two candidates now in both Cyrus and Mellie is exciting enough in itself to us; going into the season, our sentiment was that there was only one possible candidate, largely due to the fact that Vargas wasn’t a regular character. Therefore, the easy assumption was that Mellie was going to win.
