Is ‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 18 taking on episode inspired by Fox News, Roger Ailes?

Law & Order: SVU logoDuring the Presidential campaign, one of the stories that Fox News had to deal with was regrettably one of their own, one where network boss Roger Ailes was accused of sexual harassment by former news host Gretchen Carlson. The two parties eventually settled the dispute for a hefty paycheck, and Ailes is no longer at the network.

Given that this was a sex scandal that took place in prominent fashion in New York City, it’s hard to imagine that anyone out there will be all that surprised by the news that this story is going to serve as inspiration for an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU.” According to TVLine, the fictional story for the NBC drama is going to be based around Howard Coyle, the powerful head of a major news network who just so happens to have the same amount of syllables in his name as Roger Ailes. He’s someone with a deep-seeded history of darkness, and it could be coming back to bite him in a rather big way.

As for the other characters, the show is looking to cast someone in the role of 40-year old Heidi, a veteran news anchor who has a “dark and devastating secret,” a young woman in her twenties in Margery who is full of ambition, and also George, an experienced man in his fifties who knows quite a bit about what is going on around him at all times.

This episode is currently set to be titled “The Newsroom,” which makes us think more of Jeff Daniels’ Will McAvoy than anything else. Has it been mentioned enough that we miss “The Newsroom”? If not, let’s state it again here: We really miss “The Newsroom.” If there was ever a show that went off the air before its time, especially given the stuff going on in the country, this is it.
