‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13: Debating Alex’s trial
While it may not have received an abundance of attention on Thursday’s “Grey’s Anatomy” winter premiere, there is absolutely still one moment that stands out from the episode that is worthy of some further discussion: The reveal that Alex Karev is going to be standing trial for his altercation with Alex DeLuca.
The biggest takeaway that comes via this revelation is that clearly someone, whether it be Meredith or Jo, managed to get through to him regarding taking the deal. That still doesn’t make it any easier when it comes to the charges that he still faces. He’s going to be forced to defend himself for his actions, and it’s going to be tough given that he did what he did. There’s no changing that.
The biggest issue that he could be facing is the severity of the punishment, and if there is a way that he can keep his job at the hospital in the process. That’s been his greatest fear more than anything — all it could take is a felony conviction to make it almost impossible for him to continue his career. It’s not often that you find yourselves rooting for someone to get a misdemeanor, but this is one of those said occasions.
Is there an alternate route for the story to take? We presume so, but it would take someone getting through to DeLuca and making it clear that it’s just not worth it. Given the apparent crush that he seems to have on Jo, she is one of the only people who could make that happen. The one thing that we’re fairly concerned about at the moment is that this is not a show where anyone gets off easy. It’s bittersweet often in its approach, and even though you can CLEARLY see that Alex has suffered already in the wake of everything that he’s been through, there could still be a sentiment that he will have to pay the piper more as we move further into the future.
