‘Vikings’ season 4, episode 20 (finale) spoilers: ‘The Reckoning,’ and a battle, is here
Tonight, “Vikings” brought us an episode that is building up to one of the biggest finales that we’ve seen with this show to date, and we mean that in terms of both size and scale. “The Reckoning” (airing next week) will be physical no doubt, but to go along with that, you also better be prepared to see some strategy and plotting which you have not seen on this show before. Tonight we saw some of that when Bjorn actually stopped fighting with Ivar for a second and took his advice to strategically change up how they fight in order to get an advantage on Aethelwulf – and it worked! Everything will be taken up another notch, and there’s a good chance many people won’t make it out alive. (Granted, you also know a good many people do survive — this is history after all!)
Synopsis – “Prince Aethelwulf finds himself subject to the Vikings‘ battle master plan; Ecbert remains behind with a plan of his own.”
This looks like it’s going to be a battle of plans just as much as it is a battle of action — if strategy is the key, then we’re putting our money on Team Ivar. He’s shown himself to be a guy who is willing to think outside of the box and be ruthless in order to get what he wants. For the other characters, this should be terrifying, but for us, it’s exciting. Our question is how they’re going to be able to cram everything in with just one episode still remaining. Not only do we have this epic battle between Ragnar’s sons and Aethelwulf, but Lagertha has some problems with king Harald going on back in Kattegat, so there will be some loose ends to tie up over there next Wednesday as well.
After this episode airs, History will have the show on hiatus for a few months. There is no confirmed return date yet for the series, but everyone on the show has been hard at work on season 5 for a rather long time now. Season 4 originally premiered all the way back in February 2016, and we have a feeling that you’ll have to wait a little bit longer than next month to get the next new batch of episodes on the air.
Promo – We’re not going to say that this gives you too much insight in terms of plot, but it does shape the epic scale of what is to come.
